indian mirrors and gems II

TITLE:  India: mirrors and gems II

SIZE:  Image: 140mm x 140mm Mount:  White 300mm x 300m

PRICE:  £125.00 plus P & P.

ARTIST'S OBSERVATIONS:  This is the second in a series of three - so far.  The first painting was quite close to the original design which I had photographed on a ceiling where the designs just blew me away.  By the second picture I was now experimenting, not only with the patterns, but also with little mirror stick ons, silver rings in different sizes and, of course, stick on gems!  In one way I felt that I was playing rather then producing a picture, but I was having so much fun there was no way I was going to stop.  Sadly the photograph of this one does not do it full justice as the light reflects from the mirrors distorting the image.

Mirrors and gems I

TITLE:  India: mirrors and gems I

SIZE:

PRICE:  £125.00 including P & P.

ARTIST'S OBSERVATIONS:  This was the second painting I attempted after my return from India.  I had had the joy of visiting numerous palaces, and many were ornately decorated.  One in particular had a whole corridor clad in mirrors and semi-precious jewells, set out in a geometric design.

This just set in motion my creative juices when I returned home, and had so much fun - not only deciding on colours and design, but also sticking on "gems", mirrors and anything else I could lay my hands on that sparkled!  There are three of these little paintings in the series - so far!

India: kitsch and colour

TITLE:  India:  kitsch and colour

SIZE:  Image: 320mm x 240mm Mount: Off white 470mm x 400mm

PRICE:  £195 including P & P

ARTIST'S OBSERVATIONS:  For those who have been lucky enough to visit India, it assaults just about every sense, not least of which for an artist, are the bright colours, patterns and sparkling gems (real or not).  Once I had got used to this I revelled in everything I saw.  It wasn't only in the bazaars, but in the temples and palaces which were ornately decorated.  One such ancient palace had murals on the walls depicting life during the Raj and also well before that time.  I have yet to make the most of everything I saw, but this picture was the first I tried when I got home. It's not a masterpiece, more a piece of fun as I used ribbon, stick on gems, and anything that took my fancy, it took me back to India and its wild, colourful magic!

ARTIST'S OBSERVATIONS:  My third in this series, although in fact it doesn't have any mirrors in it.  I found the Indian-looking motifs quite by accident and just had to use them.  Once again I threw everything at it including bigger and better gems.  I also enjoyed using the background of pink, orange and a tiny bit of purple and almost went mad lining up tiny little red "jewels" which had a tendancy to drop off from time to time while working on it.  I am beginning to wonder whether I am lurching into the realms of craft rather than art and really hope not!
