ARTIST'S OBSERVATIONS:  I don't wish to patronise, but for anyone who has never visited this lovely spot and is struggling to pronounce the name it is "Tinabrooich - the "ch" is the soft Scottish sound as in loch.  One of my special places to be is on the west coast of Scotland, where the mountains are magestic, the coast is beautiful and the rain ... well it rains!  I travel north at least once a year, and in 2017 I struck a sunny June where I used my eyes and my camera and returned with several images I wanted to paint and lots of lovely memories.  This isn't perhaps a great painting, but it is so evocative of the quiet vistas of palm trees, boats at anchor on quiet lochs and beautiful hills across the water.

ARTIST'S OBSERVATIONS:  On my trip to Argyll in Western Scotland in Summer 2017 I was incredibly lucky to hit a dry, sunny spell while the wild rhododendrons were in full flower. I had never seen the west coast quite as beautiful, and I took loads of photographs of the amazing colours, wondering if anyone would believe me if I painted them as I saw them.  Tignabruaich (for its pronunciation see my observations on Tignabruaich towards the hills) is a tiny village on the edge of the Kyles of Bute.  The scenery in every direction is breathtaking and the roads to and from it are often single lane with passing places and great timber lorries hurtling towards you - they do the journey frequently and fast!  Once there, there is a tiny anchorage, a gallery which sells the most amazing art, a hotel or two facing the water and hills.  Sublime.
